I watched Heaven is For Real awhile ago, if you are not familiar with it, it’s a book turned to movie that narrates the story of a little boy, 4 years of age, who claimed that he visited heaven. It is based on true story.
It was during the time when he was closed to death; during his operation, he said that the angels lifted him up, sang to him, and Jesus went to him and showed him the heaven. It was just a visit. The movie shows the struggle of the father who believes in what happened to his son, but the people surrounding them somehow criticizing the story.
Colton Burpo, the little boy, said that everybody’s young and healthy in heaven, no one have glasses and wheelchairs. Then I remembered my brother. We lost my brother 5 years ago, when he was 14 years old, duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The story made me think, did the angels also sang to him when he was leaving the emergency room? Was he also not scared? It was a good feeling to know that everybody is young and healthy in heaven; thus, my brother is too.
Burpo also said that we should not be scared of death, that nobody will ever hurt you there. And I realize that that he’s right. Why will we be scared, to think that in the other side of the world, a never ending life is waiting for us. This tells us that if we will live our life following the words of God, we don’t need to be scared. Because when the time comes for us to go back to the side of Father, we will be sure that our journey will be bright and easy.
May the story of Colton Burpo inspires us to live life believing that something, and somebody is waiting for us on the other side. Thank you to the Burpo’s family for sharing their story.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY.
